Firstly regards the crash make sure you installed the 1.3 version of the driver, not the old one. You could download it directly from the Manufacturers Website in case they have issued an update since I wrote this page.
If you have found the file in the path, you will need to run each of the following commands in the CLI/Terminal to remove old CH340 drivers. In this case, there was only the usbserial.kext file but it does not hurt to run both commands. Make sure to have administrative privileges to ensure that the drivers are removed.
Check if the old drivers were removed in the paths by using the ls command with your respective OS version. You will notice that the *.kext file is removed from the respective paths. In this case, the usbserial.kext was removed from Mac OSX High Sierra.
The CP210x Manufacturing DLL and Runtime DLL have been updated and must be used with v 6.0 and later of the CP210x Windows VCP Driver. Application Note Software downloads affected are AN144SW.zip, AN205SW.zip and AN223SW.zip. If you are using a 5.x driver and need support you can download Legacy OS Software.
This driver will let you use USB to serial programmable devices with the ch340g/ch340c/ch314 chipsets. These programmable chips are used for small projects and some devices that have been converted for USB. There is a tutorial here on installation and other functions of the chip. If you are installing on a really old version of Windows such as Windows 98 make sure you install all the latest drivers for USB support, sometimes the unofficial Windows 98 Service packs are the best way. Devices using ESP8266 Chipset are often interfaced with the CH340 chip.

I have an uno r3 with ch340G which I can talk to from my home w7 x64 notebook after I have installed the drivers. On my desktop the drivers somehow do not communicate properly. If I plug in the device windows recognized it and shows port 8 as new port. When I try to transfer a sketch to the device it fails though with error message avrdude: stk500_recv(): programmer ist not responding. I have tried CH341s64.sys rev 3.3.2011.11 and 3.4.2014.8 without success 1e1e36bf2d
